Building Toddler Independence
Building independence in their child is a daunting task for any parent. You love your babies and want to help them, guide them and take care of them. But starting to build independence early on will only benefit you and your child in the long run.
Having your child gain some independence does not mean they won't still need your love, guidance and assistance. It only means they can start to build self-help skills, learn some coping mechanisms in certain situations (i.e. when transitioning from one task to another), and build a better sense of self as they learn to make their own choices and accomplish their own tasks. This will make a tremendous difference as they grow up and enter school; having to cope and complete tasks without mom or dad!
